We want to create something that is as close to the real thing as possible. To make this dream a reality, we maintain a commitment to every step of the process, working under an integrated production system in Japan, from in-house planning and development to after-sales support. We continue to take on the challenge of not only achieving the most realistic models, but also creating the most reliable running experience.
1: Planning
When developing a new model, various items are repeatedly examined during the planning stage such as blue prints, measurements from the real trains and colors. Planning and development meetings continue until the train is put on the production line.
2: Design
We have created a 3D CAD/CAM system that utilizes the latest in computer technology. In order to get the model as close as possible to the real thing, we design the structure and details with durability and ease of production in mind. From the basic draft to the final product design we keep the end customer in mind.
3: Mold Production
It is no exaggeration to say that the precision of the mold determines the quality of the model. Our unique molding technology, unmatched by any other company, allows us to achieve precision of 1/1000 mm.
4: Injection Molding
Using the molds we designed we start the injection molding process by injecting plastic into the molds. This plastic will soon become the trains you know and love!
5: Paint
Color is a model’s identity. To make every train look as realistic as possible, we use high-precision painting and printing to capture everything from the main livery down to the tiniest, labels. This obsessive attention to detail ensures the final product is as close to the real prototype as possible.
6: Assembly
Most assembly is done by hand by a dedicated team of workers. During the assembly process each part is inspected and tested to make sure the final product is of the quality Kato is known for.
7: Distribution
After inspection and boxing, the products are shipped to retailers across the country and world.
8: Support
We have the goal of our products to run as long as possible an after-sales service system in place to help this goal. We respond to the needs of model train fans across the country, including requests for repairs and parts.
